What is Altro Flexiflow?

Altro Flexiflow™ is a flexible polyurethane resin that is easy to install. It self-smooths to create a seamless, uniform finish with clean lines. It can be applied over green concrete using Altro Proof™ damp-proof membrane, speeding up installation. The PUR topcoat ensures UV colour stability, durability, and easy cleaning. It comes in a variety of colours, including pastel, solid, and bright options, with an eggshell-like finish.

Standard Colours of Altro Flexiflow Flooring

Altro Flexiflow comes in 25 standard colours. Bespoke colours are also available.

Chemical Resistance of Altro Flexiflow Flooring

Altro Flexiflow resists many commonly used chemicals. However, contact with chemicals (including water) during curing can cause discolouration, foaming, staining, and changes in gloss. In case of a spill, remove it immediately and wash the surface with clean water, using a wet vacuum to remove the water afterwards. Some chemicals might cause discolouration, but this does not compromise the resin’s durability and integrity.

Altro Flexiflow resists commonly used chemicals, ensuring long-lasting performance, and supports sustainability by minimising replacement frequency and resource consumption.

Surface Preparation of Resin Flooring Application

Surface preparation is crucial for resin flooring application. Poor preparation can cause adhesion loss and failure. The substrate type determines the preparation method. For concrete floors, use a dust-enclosed diamond floor grinder or lightly shot blast for a clean, textured surface profile.

If treated with a cementitious surface improver, follow the manufacturer’s guidelines or abrade with an STR machine and vacuum well. Address local repairs like cracks, holes, or level modifications before installation. Cold substrates with rising temperatures can cause pinholes in the resin. Ensure stable ambient and substrate temperatures before and during application.

Substrate Requirements

Substrates must be dry, sound, and free from contaminants that affect adhesion or penetration of the resin system. Remove all old paint residues and dust. Substrates should have a surface tensile strength of 1.5N/mm² (BS EN 13892-8) and include a damp-proof membrane with moisture below 5% by weight (75% R.H.).

Install underfloor heating in a weight-bearing screed layer as per BS EN 1264-4, Type A. After achieving strength, commission heating for seven days, keeping the surface temperature below 27°C. Turn off the heating 48 hours before and after installation.

FAQs

How long does Altro Flexiflow flooring last?

Altro Flexiflow flooring is designed for durability. Under normal conditions, it can last many years without significant wear. Proper installation and maintenance are crucial to achieving optimal longevity. Regular cleaning and avoiding harsh chemicals help maintain its quality.

Can you repair Altro Flexiflow flooring?

Yes, you can repair Altro Flexiflow flooring. Minor damages are fixable using repair kits available from the manufacturer. Follow instructions carefully to ensure the repaired section matches the rest of the flooring and retains its performance characteristics.

How do you clean Altro Flexiflow Flooring?

Floors with slip resistance need mechanical cleaning; wet-loop mopping is less effective but may work for routine cleaning of smooth surfaces. Microfibre cleaning systems can maintain smooth floors if the right detergent and dosage are used and pads are changed often enough. Do not use steam or hot pressure cleaners on Altro Flexiflow. Warm water is better for cleaning, but it should be below 40°C. Entrance mats reduce cleaning needs and help floors last longer with proper maintenance.
