Client Overview:
DC Flooring was appointed by DAB Group, a new client, to carry out specialist floor preparation and resin application works. The client required the full removal of existing surface coatings, including old paint and an area of latex residue from previously installed carpet and vinyl flooring. The brief also included removing line markings, grinding the slab, cutting back bolts, and applying targeted epoxy scratch coatings to areas of damage. The client was very satisfied with the overall finish and project delivery.
Challenge:
The main challenge on this project was the condition of the existing concrete slab, which showed significant pitting, chips, and general surface deterioration. This required extensive preparation to achieve a suitable substrate for the new finish. Weather conditions also created programme pressure, as sufficient curing time between coats was essential to ensure product performance and long-term durability.

Solution:
Due to budget constraints, a full scratch coat or pumped screed overlay was not feasible. Instead, the team used KDR Resin [platinum colour] alongside a high level of detailed preparation and repair work. Damaged areas were carefully treated using epoxy repair methods, including lead-filled and epoxy-based solutions, to stabilise and improve the slab surface. DC Flooring’s experience and technical knowledge allowed the team to adapt their approach and deliver effective results despite the limitations.
Outcome:
Considering the poor initial condition of the substrate, the finished floor was delivered to a very good standard. The surface was successfully prepared, repaired, and coated to meet the client’s functional and visual requirements. Notably, the team completed the works in nine days, finishing ahead of the original ten-day programme, which was a key success for the client.

Conclusion:
Teamwork, experience, and clear communication with the client were central to the project’s success. This project reinforced the importance of adaptable problem-solving and detailed preparation when working with heavily damaged substrates. The result was a well-executed installation and the start of a positive relationship with a new client.
